Curlita: A Designer’s Real-World Review
Practical Designer Notes—No Assumptions, Just Checks
- Test it in black and white first—no color tricks masking weak contrast or uneven weight distribution.
- Check small-size readability on actual devices—not just mockups. I print a 10pt sample and hold it at arm’s length. If the ‘e’ or ‘a’ closes up, step back.
- Try it on real mockups: a fabric swatch for merch, a textured paper sample for invites, a smartphone screen for social ads.
- Compare uppercase vs. lowercase in context. Sometimes the lowercase version conveys more brand warmth—even if the client initially asked for caps.
- Review spacing—kerning pairs like “To”, “We”, and “Av” often need manual adjustment. Don’t assume the default is optimal.
- Test font pairing deliberately: set Curlita beside a serif font (for contrast), a sans serif font (for balance), a script font (to confirm it doesn’t clash), a handwritten font (to verify hierarchy), and another display font (to avoid visual competition).
- Confirm commercial licensing—especially for digital products, Canva templates, or client deliverables. Not all licenses cover resale or SaaS integration.
